Q.
We moved into a home with a finished basement which had been flooded
once before. Due to dampness mold was showing on the walls. They were
washed with a solution and repainted with a special paint. Due to one more
flooding, mold became apparent again. We had the whole basement torn
apart, removing walls, carpeting, etc. It remained dry for 2 years. This
year it flooded again, three times in two weeks and we have been pumping
water 24/7 with the sump pump for about 6-8 weeks. We have also installed
a dehumidifier. We do not use the basement and keep that door shut. In the
last two weeks mold has become apparent in the staircase on this side of
the basement door. How much of a health risk should we be worried about?
Is there anything else we can do at this point? [June 16, 2005]

Even before your most recent
floods, it
is extremely likely that the past floods in your home and the past,
probably-inadequate mold remediation efforts have resulted in mold growth
hidden inside walls, ceilings, and the heating/cooling equipment and
ducts. Learn the 25 steps for safe and effective

basement mold may have grown into the floors and walls above. It is
also almost guaranteed that airborne mold spores from the basement mold

up and down stairs, and also enter your upstairs through open windows and
